Interesting 19th C Bamboo Cased Life Preserver Defence Cane

This is an interesting 19th century sword stick. Our view is that it is likely to be of Japonise origin but the gold coloured band does carry the name Briggs who were a famous  London cane and walking stick retailer in the late 19th early 20t century. The Handle has some carved lettering and the collar is engraved JHP. The sword shaft has some damage to tip. A identical cane was sold by Skinners Autioneers for in Boston USA for $940. The length is 97cm.
