Charming L18th/E19th C Oil William George Jennings 1763-1854 'Rural Retreat'
Jennings is a highly regarded artist producing work in the late 18th and first half of the 19th century very often painting alongside his good friend John Constable. This painting is from that period probably dating from around 1790 t0 1810 so is over 200 years old. Jennings mainly painted on paper and this has at a later date been mounted on artists board and is protected behind glass. We also have in stock a sister painting by Jennings of the same size and similar subject and they would make a good pair. The other work is entitled 'Riverside Cottage'. This is a rare chance to purchase a 200 year old oil painting at an affordable price. The painting measures33cm x 49cm unframed and 58cm x 42cm framed. William George Jennings was a British visual artist who was born in 1763. Many works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'A view at Westhamble, Surrey, with a figure on a track, a lake in the distance' sold at Christie's. Jennings was a close friend of John Constable and the two artists shared a house Jennings bought two paintings from Constable 'Yarmouth Jetty' and 'Hampstead Heath with Rainbow'.
